Who we are

Budg ("Budg," "we," "us," or "our") provides a personal and family budgeting application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Budg mobile app and this website (budg.io).

Information we collect

• Account information. When you create an account, we collect information needed to sign you in and secure your account, such as your email address and an authentication identifier. If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we never receive your real email address.
• Financial information you connect. If you choose to link a bank account, our banking partner Plaid securely provides us with information such as your account names, balances, and transactions so the app can show your budget. We never see or store your bank login credentials — those are handled directly by Plaid and your bank.
• Information you enter. Budgets, categories, recurring bills and income, notes, and other details you add to organize your finances.
• Limited technical data. Basic app and device diagnostics (for example, crash reports) used to keep the app working and secure.

How we use your information

• To provide the app: show your accounts, budgets, spending, and insights.
• To keep your account secure and prevent fraud or abuse.
• To operate, maintain, and improve Budg.
• To respond to you when you contact support.

We do not use your financial data for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.

How we share information

We share your information only in these limited situations — and never for sale:

• Service providers who run the app for us. We use trusted providers strictly to operate Budg on our behalf, including Plaid (secure bank connections) and Google Firebase (authentication, database, and hosting). They may only use your information to provide services to us.
• People you choose to share with. If you share a budget or recipe with family or a group, that information is visible to the people you invite.
• Legal reasons. If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or Budg.

Bank connections through Plaid

Budg uses Plaid Inc. to connect to your financial institution. When you link an account, you interact with Plaid to authorize access, and Plaid's handling of your information is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. You can disconnect a linked account at any time from within the app.

How we protect your information

Security matters to us. Data is encrypted in transit, and sensitive credentials such as bank access tokens are encrypted at rest. Access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard safeguards.

Your choices and rights

• Access & update: View and edit your information in the app.
• Disconnect a bank: Unlink any connected account at any time.
• Delete your account: You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@budg.io.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the app. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal and financial information, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations.

Children's privacy

Budg is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll provide a more prominent notice.
